THE HIP HOP FOUNDATION: FOR THE PEOPLE

On August 11,1973, DJ Kool Herc played records at the Back to School Jam, thrown by his sister Cindy Campbell, in an effort to help her buy clothes for the upcoming school year. This musical fundraiser, held at a community center on 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx, later became known as the birth of Hip Hop.
